Loft Conversion FAQs

Are you a specialists in this field?

Yes we have converted many loft in the London area and have years of experience. We are also a full member of the Federation of Mater Builders (FMB). We are also nice people and can help you along every step of the process.

Are you fully insured for such works?

Naturally we have full public liability insurance an contact works insurance giving you full peace of mind through out the process. These can be viewed on request.

How do I know I can convert my loft?

Generally if you have 2.3m clear between the ceiling joists and the apex of the roof (the highest point) then you should be able to convert your loft space.

Can you help with the early stages in terms of design and planning?

Yes, we can help form planning through to completion. We even got permission to do a loft in a central location spot in Mayfair recently and even helped with gaining permission for an  additional flat within this?

Where will the stairs go and what will they look like?

Normally they will run over the existing stairs but this may not always be possible. The stairs will be a very close match to the existing to make sure they are in keeping with the rest of the house.

How long does this planning process take?

Typically around 6-8 weeks from submission.

Can you deal with party wall matters for us?

No but we can put you in touch with reputable local surveyors who we work with on a regular basis.

How long does the build process take?

This normally takes around 8 weeks to complete depending on the size and nature of the loft conversion

What are your typical working hours?

From Monday to Friday 8 until 6 and Saturday from 8 unitl 1. These hours can be altered to suit your requirement but are aimed at completing the loft in the fastest possible time.

How will you access the loft?

Almost exclusively from the scaffold that will erected to allow the works.  We will rarely need to enter the house except for towards the end when we break through to install the stairs.

Who supervises this work?

Either the owner of the company or a project manager will oversee works. It will be further supervised by the local building control department who we will liase with on your behalf. They will come to the site approximately 5/6 times to check that everything meets current building standards.

We work full time, how can we keen in contact with you?

You will also have access to an office based project manager who is available both on the telephone and via email throughout the working day.

Can we live in during the works?

You will be able to live in the property with very little disruption to the main living space. Most of our clients live in situ during the build.

What will I need to do with my current plumbing installation?

If you have a combination boiler normally it is possible to simply extend this system without problems. If you have a water tank and or a flat beneath your this will be a little more involved and will have to be surveyed by our plumber.

 
How do I obtain a quote from Nu Space ?

How can we arrange an appointment with Nu Space ?

What will the quote include?

The quote will include the build and the fitting of your sanitaryware. You will have a fully fitted and ready to use loft space. The only options are the finish flooring, painting and decorating and the tiling of the bathroom. We can help with all of these if you wish or you may have your own preferred decorators.

Can I see a completed loft?

Of course with a little notice we can arrange for something in your area very soon.

When can you start?

Normally within 1 month of obtaining all permissions required.
